Before you can set up a web site, you need to pick a domain, and register it. Altemara IT can handle your domain registration, and monitor it year after year, so that no one steals your brand
Go to a site such as Web.com, and find a domain name that is not taken. Before you register it, let us know what you choose, and we will register it and manage it for you. You can register it if you wish, but then you will have to set up your domain name servers to point at your web-host. This is something that must be done from the account where you register your domain. That is why we say to let us register it and manage it for you.
Tips for picking a domain
- Choose a name that you could say to someone over the phone, preferably without spelling it.
- Two or three words at the most. People need to be able to remember it, and be able to type it in the address bar.
- Ensure your name doesn't encroach on someone else's brand, especially if you're both in simliar fields.
- Stick with the common extensions if you can. (.com, .biz for business, .org for organizations)
- If there is a common misspelling of your domain name, consider getting that one too. You can always point multiple domain names to the same web site, with little effort, and no extra hosting costs.
